Everybody seems to be asking for vector graphics now and Photoshop does have its limits. So I got myself a copy of Illustrator and began pushing all its buttons and familiarizing myself with its tools and capabilities.
After two weeks of messing around, I was finally getting the hang of this amazing software. I had been trying my luck at designing site logos for other webmasters, and realized that I needed a logo myself. I quickly set out to design my very own logo.
Since I am still lacking skills in the freehand artistic department, my first thought of creating a “scoopy” mascot was not going to materialize. That idea will have to wait for some other day. I drew my inspiration from the favicon I had been using and decided to recreate the eyes from the G1 Tux featured in the Crystal icon theme.
It would of been easier to piece this together with my experience in using Photoshop, but a scalable logo done in Illustrator would be a better choice. Who knows, someday soon I just may want to print this on everything from coffee mugs to t-shirts.
So although those eyeballs are not a totally unique idea… I have produced one of my first fully vectorized logos. I am hopeful that my new logo will accomplish its job and begin to form my own identity and brand as a webmaster.
And if you are interested is seeing some of the logos I have been designing, I have them posted on my logo design page.
